It has been a long, long time since I did a blog post! I figured what better way to kick off a new blogging venture than to join the One Room Challenge!
If you are new to the One Room Challenge it is a great blogging event where a group of 20 bloggers make over one room in 6 weeks. Along with the 20 bloggers there are dozens of guest bloggers (like me!) who also join in on the fun. You can read more about it here.
Crazy? Maybe. But it also promises to be fun and to make me make decisions and get a room in my house completely done! As a decorator making decisions for my own house is the hardest part. Knowing all of the choices available out there can make you go crazy.
The room I have chosen to take on for my One Room Challenge is my guest bedroom. My husband and I live in a small 1700's farmhouse in New York. Our house is a saltbox/cape style so the two bedrooms are upstairs under the eaves. Meaning they are small and have sloping ceilings.
Here is the room now:

It's fine. I don't hate it but it isn't great. Most everything in the room is a cast-off from another room. It is also a dumping ground for anything that doesn't have a place. And to be honest, this isn't even bad. At other times....especially when we have dinner guests....the room is piled with stuff!
I am hoping that when the room is complete that will stop!

Here is some inspiration for the space:
The two images above are from Laura and Harry Slatkin house in East Hampton decorated by Howard Slatkin.
Also from a home in the Hamptons, the images above are from the iconic bedroom of Estee Lauder.
I hope to see everyone back next week where I will reveal the plan for the room. And don't forget to visit everyone else who is participating in the One Room Challenge!
