Lately I have been into red in decorating. It can be a whole room lacquered in red or just a detail or small touch of red that catches my eye. When red is used the right way it can be cozy, happy and fun.
I have had my own affairs with red over the years. The very first couch I ever purchased years ago from Pottery Barn had a dark red slipcover for winter and when we bought our first house I had the living room painted red. We also painted our dining room a dark green/blue color. I think we were sick of having to live with renter white walls and so we went a little overboard with the color.
While my house is now filled with more blue and white rather than bright colors I still love a touch of red or bold color in the right places.

This is a home in the Hamptons decorated by Peter Marino. I love the red block printed linens and the variation of pattern here. Such a cozy bedroom.
Above dining room by Miles Redd, the master of color. The otherwise neutral black and white room gets a jolt of personality through the red leather chairs and lampshades.
The guest bedroom in Christopher Spitzmiller's house featured in Architectural Digest features Fireworks wallpaper by Albert Hadley. I love the pattern used in this allover way. Not to mention the pair of red Spitzmiller lamps. A pair of those lamps makes any space!
Above is a detail of the drapes from the Kip's Bay room Mark D Sikes did a few years back. The whole room was a mix of red patterns. I love the details on these drapes....the lining in a coordinating fabric and the multiple layers on trim. He really is a master at details. The pop of blue trim just pulls it all together.
Speaking of mixing blue and red....this space by Tobi Farley really gets that mix right.
For a home in Millbrook, Ashley Whittaker lacquered the trim red and created a sophisticated space with a great mix of patterns.
The ultimate cozy library/den space by Alex Papachristides. His spaces are always so layered and luxe.
Red can be such a great color! I am looking forward to finding more ways to use red in spaces that I design.
