I had heard of Furlow Gatewood over the years. Initially I had read about him on one of my very first favorite design blogs, Cote De Texas and loved what I saw but didn't do much research after that. However, a couple of months ago I was in a design shop and saw his book; One Man's Folly and decided to purchase it. I am so glad I did. It opened me up to the Georgia world of Furlow. At 90-something years old he is still improving his property and decorating and adding to his collections. Such an inspiration!
Above is the peacock house. I now desperately want to have peacocks! ;)
Furlow started out selling antiques with John Roselli and is great friends with Bunny Williams and John Roselli. He eventually moved down to Georgia and now has 4 building on his compound including a peacock house. He collects what he loves and fills his home with his collections.
The driveway which is lined with overflowing pots of hydrangea.
Another building on his property. I love details including the dovecote cut into the siding and the trim on the portico.

Throughout his home he mixes antiques with simples textures and textiles. In this space above the painted boards on the walls, simple checked fabrics and flatweave dhurrie create such a comfortable looking home.
Love the oversized dhurrie on the floor again mixed with gorgeous antiques and slipcovered furniture. The way he mixed antiques with everyday items make the antiques so approachable rather than making them look like museum pieces that you are afraid to touch. They fit so well and add warmth and depth to his rooms.
This might be one of my favorites rooms! The board and batten painted white with another striped dhurrie, mixed with wicker and ikat fabrics. He has such a great touch. I could imagine spending all weekend in this room!
Stripped pine consoles with loads of blue and white porcelain and painted furnitures. I am also in love with the painted floor and the mirrored french doors.
I read somewhere that that only major changes to his decor over the years is the color of his walls. It really just speaks to the importance of creating a home you love with timeless pieces.

A gorgeous porch looking out onto his beautiful gardens.
Furlow Gatewood has a look entirely his own. He is certainly not afraid to mix things up and use what he loves. You can see how personal his interiors all are with his collections throughout. He uses what he loves. Definitely an inspiration!
