The exterior of your home is the first thing that guests see when they visit. Giving your home personality and style can be done through the color of the house, the landscaping, and details like shutters, house numbers, mailboxes, and door knobs. One of my favorite ways to add personality is through the color of the front door. We have been in the process of having our house repainted as well as that of a clients. Both of the houses are being painted white which leaves so much room for fun when choosing accent colors.
For my own house I choose to paint the shutters in Benjamin Moore's Metallic Silver. It is not actually silver or metallic but just a pretty gray color. It was inspired by two houses/buildings that I often drive by in Bedford, NY.

This first one is a residential house. It did not photograph that well but I have always loved the white and silvery/gray color scheme. It's striking in a subtle way and almost has an airy look to it. I love it!
This building is a store or something. I'm actually not sure because I have never seen it open and the parking lot is closed off but it is always really well taken care of. Although all the paint on this building is white, when you are there in person it has a silvery look to it well the wood shingles and the lead coated copped on the edges of the roof.
Both of these places have a different look that wasn't really captured in the photos. I think the natural daylight and sun give them both a really beautiful look.

Now I am on the search for the perfect front door color. I want a super high gloss door in a great color. Like the doors I took endless pictures of in Paris and London. One that almost looks wet. We are going to use Fine Paints of Europe as it is supposed to be the best for achieving this look. With the white house and the gray shutters I could really go in a bunch of direction but I am looking to choose a blue color. Here are some color inspirations:
One exterior that I have loved for a few years (as have tons of other people!) is Miles Redd's house. Love the blue color of his front door. It was a custom mixed color so I could only try to find something similar.

This door is from Martha Stewart's website and is a Benjamin Moore color. I love it with the blue hydrangeas!
Really pretty blue color with that nickel hardware. I love the European style doorknob in the center of the door.
Navy is not the direction that I thought I would go but the painter had a can of super high gloss navy paint an did a sample coat for me. I was planning on going with one of the lighter colors above but this image is making me reconsider. Navy is classic and I do love it. Especially with those blue and white porcelain pots and large trees. Should I stick with navy or am I taking the easy route here?
Here is an article I found from the Washington Post about achieving that perfect super high gloss look on a front door. It really is an art and not a DIY project!
